WeLead Conference: “When Women Connect, the World Changes”

WeLead Conference: “When Women Connect, the World Changes”

16 February, 2017, Johannesburg- Recognising that half of Africa’s population is made up of women who must contribute to the leadership fabric of the continent for effective transformation, QualityLife Company will host the 12th Annual WeLead Women’s Conference from 8-9 March 2017 in Johannesburg, South Africa. The conference has been described as the most dynamic event on women’s leadership in Africa. It focuses on conversations that actively help delegates effect change in their lives and workplaces, and highlights the extensive women’s leadership potential that exists on the African continent.

“There’s never been a better time for women to lead. We’re living in extraordinary times, both globally and at home.  There is a growing sense of empowerment, of ordinary people taking their destiny into their own hands and standing up for themselves.  For women, this is an ideal time to step up, speak up and take our place as leaders says Debby Edelstein, women’s leadership consultant and co-founder of QualityLife Company.

The theme of the conference this year is  “We are the leaders we’ve been waiting for”

The line-up of keynote speakers is diverse. Some of the confirmed speakers include Special Envoy on Gender at the African Development Bank, Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi; Managing Director of Africommunications Group, Mimi Kalinda; CEO of Ocean Basket, Grace Harding; and founding dean and professor in the area of strategy and leadership at the Gordon Institute of Business Science, Nick Binedell. The conference has become well known for boasting a slew of accomplished women leaders on its panels within a warm, informal environment.

The WeLead conference also serves as a platform for young African women to access mentorship from more experienced women leaders. The program includes guidance on fast-tracking one’s career from “good manager” to “great leader”. A powerful combination of presentations, panel discussions, group dialogue processes and informal networking sessions provide the context for women to discover their own leadership potential and make sure that they can reap the rewards in their personal lives and within their organisations.

Ellen Mahlangu of Eskom, a past delegate of the conference, commented: “The beauty of the conference is that the skills learned can be applied anywhere, at home at work and in the community. The content is practical and relevant to the current issues faced by women.”

Women’s leadership initiatives are an essential element for creating a society that is gender neutral and empowering for all. Conference sponsors include Makro and the Soul City Institute for Social Justice. Registration is now open, and group discounts and special rates for NGOs and entrepreneurs are available.
